KPFA RADIO SHOW INTERVIEW ON LA RAZA CHRONICLES BY NINA SERRANO
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE MURAL
In celebration of International Day of peace 2015, together with family and friends we painted a temporary construction art mural at 36 Walter St. San Francisco, CA. 94114.
The mural is made from a collection of flags from around the globe with the Peace Up sign added to them. The flags are all united together creating a tapestry of world peace art. In the middle of the mural is one life-size inverted peace symbol that is meant to frame a single person standing in front of it with their arms spread upwards flashing the peace sign.
This position is called the, “Celebrated Peace Pose” because the upright peace sign resembles the human body with two arms rising up. Within the large Peace Up sign is a yellow icon of a person assuming the position with text over it stating “You Are Here”, indicating to stand in front of the sign and replicate.
Participants are encouraged to take pictures standing in front of the Peace Up sign and to use the hashtag #peaceupworld when uploading them to a social media app of their choice. These images will join other Peace Up pictures to create an online expression of global unity and peace around the world.
Catch us every first Friday of the month through the summer of 2015 at First Friday Art Murmur near downtown Oakland, CA. We will have our booth set up selling and promoting Peace Up art, awareness, and merchandise.
On July 18th 2015, we participated in the Spark arts and innovation festival in Berkeley. It was a beautiful summer day filled with spreading the message of Peace Up. We sold some of our merchandise and gave away lots of stickers and other promotional information.
